| Food | A friend was visiting from NY and we are both hugely obsessed with sushi. We decided to investigate and try different sushi bars in LA all weekend. This one was the best we tried. Everything is incredibly fresh and the sushi rice was the perfect temperature (not too cold). It's a cliché thing to say, but the fish just melts in your mouth. We ate a ton of sushi and sashimi this weekend, and the quality of the fish at this place definitely stands out. The sushi doesn't need much soy sauce because the pieces often come pre-seasoned with a little soy or ponzu sauce. I would highly recommend the omikase here. |
| Bartender/Staff | We had Taka and he was awesome. He's friendly, funny and really knows his fish. He says he never forgets a face so he remembers all his patrons. Let's test if that's true...People have said that the service here is "cold and sterile." I disagree...I think there's just no bullshit. They do what they do, and they do it well. Taka was such a delight to talk to and they really treat their regulars like family. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd definitely be a regular... |
| Attitude | No problems, but then again, it's a sushi bar...so you're expected to eat at the bar. It's a small place in general, but I've never had a problem getting a seat. |
| Scene | Very small and cozy. There's really no "scene," but it's just down the street (walking distance) from all the gay bars and sex shops in West Hollywood. Indulge in some sushi, then skip over to Trunks for a drink! |
| Get Lucky Factor | Small sushi bar, so...unless you find another single eating alone, there's not much of a get lucky factor here. Like I said...go over to Trunks, especially if you like gay boys in short shorts. Or, there's always The Pleasure Chest down the street... |
