Featuring locally grown food that's simple, but full of flavor, Gjelina is a local favorite for foodies. The menu is divided into pizzas, vegetables, salads and small plates. We had the lamb burger, which was awesome. The truffled mushroom pizza is to die for. Fantastic charcuterie and cheese plates. Gjelina is food at its best! Fresh, simple, delicious. |
| Bartender/Staff | The bar is small and only seats 5 or 6. The bar's not really a bar either...You get served by waiters and not bartenders. The service is pretty shitty for a place with such good food. One of the reasons I like eating at the bar is the access you have to quick service - the bartender's right behind the bar and a good bartender pays attention. The waiters here don't pay enough attention, especially to bar eaters. You're kinda on your own if you want to order more food or get a refill on your drink. Just make sure you're fast enough to grab a waiter when they go by. |
| Attitude | People have said that the attitude here is a little snooty. I can definitely see that, but...it's Abbot Kinney in Venice and the food is SPECTACULAR. If I resided on Abbot Kinney and tasted that good, I might be a little cocky about it too. When I asked to sit at the bar, the hostess asked the group waiting for their table at the bar to move out of the seats so my friend and I could eat there. Smart. |
| Scene | Hipsters, beach bums with money...very trendy and Venice chic. It's a good scene and despite the trendy factor, it still attracts locals and foodies alike. Oh, also, Salma Hayek came in the day we were having lunch...which has nothing to do with anything, except that they gave some woman's table away to Salma Hayek. Welcome to Lala Land. Also, I figure writing Salma Hayek a lot could my help the SEO of my blog because Salma Hayek is pretty google friendly, right? Salma Hayek. |
| Get Lucky Factor | It's a hip place so I think you could meet some cool patrons here, but the place is small and it gets very crowded and loud when it's busy. Also, there's only wine and beer so people don't really stay to drink. I recommend hitting the beach on a weekend and coming for brunch - relaxed atmosphere, interesting people and very fun. |
